It would transform Germany, transform cultures, and transform lives.<\/p>\n<p>While the \u201cguest workers\u201d were originally scheduled to stay for two years, longer residence was expedited in 1964, and they were later allowed to bring their families. \u201cAliens\u201d at first, the \u201cguest workers\u201d eventually became \u201ccitizens\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>How would the present day have looked from the vantage point of that first journey from Sirkeci Station to the M\u00fcnchen Hauptbahnhof? The third, even the fourth, generation to be born in Germany; our post-immigration society of over two and a half million of \u201cTurkish descent\u201d means that indeed the very question of ancestry, of where one\u2019s native land is, has lost its urgency.<\/p>\n<h4>#60JahreMusik<\/h4>\n<p>This project is occasioned by the anniversary of that very Labor Agreement. During its run, we at istanbulberlin will be reading the six-decade-long history of the mass immigration from Turkey to Germany through the music. Because examining this history from various perspectives rooted in the present day may open up a space for encounters between different fractions and be the first step towards the right conditions for a dialogue we feel we sorely need. Because the stories we unearth may shine a light upon the circumstances that make up the present day. Because music is life. It touches and unites those from every walk of life.<\/p>\n<p>Within #60YearsofMusic, you\u2019ll be hearing the united voice of two people: istanbulberlin\u2019s founder Sedef \u0130lgi\u00e7, based in Istanbul, and from Stuttgart, DJ Nazl\u0131 \u00c7i\u011fdem Pilcz aka Djane Funshine. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.djfunshine.com\/en\/home\/\">Djane\u00a0Funshine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since the first day we disembarked on this project, spurred along by our personal curiosity, we have been encountering musicians we wished we had discovered sooner and songs and albums we wish had been more popular, and being privy to all kinds of musical stories. We\u2019ve become acquainted with musicians, music critics, and academics, journalists and culture and arts professionals working in the fields of music and immigration. All the doors we knocked on were opened to us with attentiveness and enthusiasm for our project, and those who opened them kindly gave us their time and support, as well as their encouragement. Lucky us!<\/p>\n<p>Finally, from July 2021 onwards, we will be sharing our efforts in the form of a series of articles, short anecdotes, interviews, playlists and ultimately a podcast.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll be holding two project-related events in September, in Berlin and Istanbul respectively. September von 10 bis 14 Uhr<\/p>\n<p>im Garten des Festsaal Kreuzberg<\/p>\n<p>Performance von DJ und Musiker*innen, Geschichten teilen, und Gespr\u00e4ch; mit t\u00fcrkischem Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges begann die aufsteigende Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Migrant*innen anzuwerben, um dem Mangel an Arbeitskr\u00e4ften zu begegnen \u2013 zun\u00e4chst betraf dies M\u00e4nner und Frauen aus Italien, Spanien und Griechenland, dann auch aus der T\u00fcrkei. Am 30. Oktober 1961 wurde ein Anwerbeabkommen zwischen Ankara und Bonn, der damaligen deutschen Hauptstadt, unterzeichnet.<\/p>\n<p>Deutschland ver\u00e4nderte sich. Kulturen ver\u00e4nderten sich. Das Leben ver\u00e4nderte sich.<\/p>\n<p>Die Gastarbeiter, deren Aufenthalt in Deutschland urspr\u00fcnglich f\u00fcr zwei Jahre geplant war, konnten ab 1964 l\u00e4nger bleiben, und sp\u00e4ter wurde ihnen gestattet, ihre Familien nachzuholen. Anfangs als \u201eAusl\u00e4nder\u201c betitelt wurden aus Gastarbeitern schlie\u00dflich B\u00fcrger der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.<\/p>\n<p>Wie w\u00fcrde das Heute aussehen, wenn man es von jener ersten Fahrt vom Bahnhof Sirkeci zum M\u00fcnchner Hauptbahnhof betrachten k\u00f6nnte?\u00a0Was f\u00fcr einen Eindruck w\u00fcrden \u00fcber zweieinhalb Millionen Einwohner t\u00fcrkischer Herkunft machen? W\u00e4re eine Gesellschaft, in der die Frage nach Herkunft und Herkunftsland an Bedeutung verloren hat, erkennbar?<\/p>\n<h6><strong>#60JahreMusik<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Anl\u00e4sslich des 60. Jahrestages des Anwerbeabkommens pr\u00e4sentieren wir #60JahreMusik, ein Projekt von istanbulberlin. Musik als Kunstform und Ausdrucksmittel ist Teil der Migrationsgeschichte von T\u00fcrk*innen, die selbst oder deren Eltern und Gro\u00dfeltern nach Deutschland zugewandert sind. Die vielf\u00e4ltige und facettenreiche Auseinandersetzung mit dieser Geschichte durch das Medium Musik kann Raum f\u00fcr Begegnungen schaffen, den Dialog zwischen den verschiedenen Bev\u00f6lkerungsschichten ansto\u00dfen und Aufschluss \u00fcber heutige soziale und gesellschaftliche Bedingungen geben. Denn Musik kann jeden ber\u00fchren und Menschen zusammenbringen, weil Musik und das Erleben so eng zusammengeh\u00f6ren.<\/p>\n<p>#60JahreMusik vereint die Stimmen der Istanbulerin Sedef \u0130lgi\u00e7 Gr\u00fcnderin von istanbulberlin, und\u00a0 der Stuttgarterin DJane Nazl\u0131 Sa\u011fd\u0131\u00e7 Pilcz, alias <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.djfunshine.com\/en\/home\/\">Djane Funshine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Im Januar 2021 hat uns unsere pers\u00f6nliche Neugier zu diesem Projekt gef\u00fchrt. Seitdem haben wir immer wieder Musiker*innen getroffen, bei denen wir uns fragen, warum wir sie nicht fr\u00fcher entdeckt haben. Viele ihrer Lieder und Alben w\u00e4ren sicherlich popul\u00e4r, wenn sie nur bekannt geworden w\u00e4ren. Ihnen und ihren musikalischen Geschichten leihen wir unsere Ohren.<\/p>\n<p>Wir lernten Musiker*innen, Musikkritiker*innen, Akademiker*innen aus den Bereichen Migration und Musik, Journalist*innen sowie Kultur- und Kunstschaffende kennen. Alle, an deren T\u00fcren wir f\u00fcr ein Gespr\u00e4che klopften, begr\u00fc\u00dften unser Projekt mit Interesse und Freude, schenkten uns ihre Zeit und Unterst\u00fctzung und ermutigten uns. Wir sch\u00e4tzen uns sehr gl\u00fccklich dar\u00fcber!<\/p>\n<p>Im Juli 2021 beginnen wir endlich diese Geschichten in Form von Serienartikeln, kurzen Anekdoten, Playlists und sp\u00e4ter in Podcasts mit Ihnen zu teilen.<\/p>\n<p>Wir werden zwei Veranstaltungen \u2013 eine in Berlin und eine in Istanbul \u2013 durchf\u00fchren.
